A Kennebunkport homeowner needed extensive renovations for their upscale oceanfront home to ready it for the summer so they could rent it to vacation goers. They had discovered a pipe leak on the second floor that had destroyed their kitchen and even frozen the cabinet doors shut.
The upscale abode, located on a street of other high-end, Cape Cod-style homes, needed extensive work – including a kitchen demo and remodel, bathroom and bedroom renovations, a complete master suite overhaul, and exterior updates – completed in a very short ten and a half week timeframe.
Their landscape contractor and property manager recommended Auld Building Company. They were impressed with our team’s presentation and chose us to take on the project.
Home Remodeling Challenges Don’t Thwart the Auld Team
Once the Auld team began the work on this major project, we learned that the support structure had rotted, compromising the home, and the kitchen floor had buckled. When the original floor was installed, the couple had been told it was oak, when in actuality the previous contractor had installed Douglas fir, a much softer wood. We replaced the floor, matching the color and also reframed the rotted first-floor joists, and added load-bearing walls on the second floor for extra support.
We completely modernized the four bathrooms, adding new tile floors and a luxurious shower, as well as new countertops and cabinets, updating the look and creating more useable spaces.
Working double-time, we were able to meet the couple’s tight timeline. They were amazed that we were able to complete the project in under three months, despite the additional challenges created by the hidden damage we uncovered throughout the process.
